AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

The establishment of Alzheimer's Awareness day acknowledges the lack of public knowledge about those suffering from dementia in the State of Texas. We hope through the establishment of a state holiday we can help spread awareness and bring attention to the terrible affliction affecting thousands of Texans all over the state.

This holiday also seeks to thank caregivers of Alzheimer's patients who work a strenuous and stressful job helping those afflicted by the disease. It also seeks to recognize both national and global efforts to spread awareness by establishing the holiday to coincide with the National Alzheimer's Awareness day.

H.B. 3773 amends current law relating to designating September 21 as Alzheimer's Awareness Day.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
