            |  | AN ACT | 
         
            |  | relating to creating abbreviated educator preparation programs for | 
         
            |  | certification in marketing education and certification in health | 
         
            |  | science technology education. | 
         
            |  | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | 
         
            |  | SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is | 
         
            |  | amended by adding Section 21.0444 to read as follows: | 
         
            |  | Sec. 21.0444.  EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING | 
         
            |  | EDUCATION CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION | 
         
            |  | CERTIFICATE.  (a)  The board shall propose rules under this | 
         
            |  | subchapter to create abbreviated educator preparation programs for | 
         
            |  | a person seeking: | 
         
            |  | (1)  a certification to teach courses in marketing; and | 
         
            |  | (2)  a certification to teach courses in health science | 
         
            |  | technology. | 
         
            |  | (b)  In proposing rules for educator preparation programs | 
         
            |  | under this section, the board shall ensure that each program | 
         
            |  | requires at least 200 hours of coursework or training. | 
         
            |  | SECTION 2.  The State Board for Educator Certification shall | 
         
            |  | propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and | 
         
            |  | renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for | 
         
            |  | certification in marketing education and certification in health | 
         
            |  | science technology education. | 
         
            |  | SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | 
         
            |  | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | 
         
            |  | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this | 
         
            |  | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | 
         
            |  | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
