A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the creation of the connectivity office within the |
|
office of the governor. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subtitle F, Title 4, Government Code, is amended |
|
by adding Chapter 490I to read as follows: |
|
CHAPTER 490I. CONNECTIVITY OFFICE |
|
Sec. 490I.0101. OFFICE. (a) The connectivity office is an |
|
office within the office of the governor. |
|
(b) The governor may employ additional employees necessary |
|
for the discharge of the duties of the connectivity office. |
|
Sec. 490I.0102. CONNECTIVITY PLAN. The connectivity office |
|
shall collaborate with the governor's broadband development |
|
council and any interested parties to develop a statewide |
|
connectivity plan to expand access to high-speed Internet service |
|
in this state. |
|
Sec. 490I.0103. BROADBAND DEVELOPMENT MAP. (a) The |
|
connectivity office shall create, update annually, and publish a |
|
broadband development map that displays: |
|
(1) areas of this state that have sufficient |
|
infrastructure to support high-speed Internet service; |
|
(2) areas of this state that do not have sufficient |
|
infrastructure to support high-speed Internet service; and |
|
(3) planned Internet service infrastructure projects. |
|
(b) The connectivity office may consult with the governor's |
|
broadband development council and any interested parties for the |
|
purpose of creating and updating the broadband development map. |
|
Sec. 490I.0104. RULEMAKING. The governor may adopt rules |
|
as necessary to implement this chapter. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
