A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a database of information about women with uterine |
|
fibroids and to uterine fibroid education and research. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subtitle D, Title 2, Health and Safety Code, is |
|
amended by adding Chapter 100A to read as follows: |
|
CHAPTER 100A. UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION AND RESEARCH |
|
Sec. 100A.001. UTERINE FIBROID DATABASE. (a) The |
|
department's Center for Health Statistics shall establish and |
|
maintain an electronic database of information related to uterine |
|
fibroids to increase awareness about uterine fibroids and ensure |
|
women receive the information and health care necessary to prevent |
|
and treat the condition. The database must include the: |
|
(1) incidence and prevalence of uterine fibroids in |
|
this state; |
|
(2) demographic attributes of women diagnosed with |
|
uterine fibroids; and |
|
(3) treatments for uterine fibroids used by health |
|
care providers. |
|
(b) A health care provider who diagnoses or treats a woman |
|
with uterine fibroids shall submit for inclusion in the |
|
department's Center for Health Statistics the information required |
|
by the center in the form and manner prescribed by the department. |
|
The information provided under this section may be combined with |
|
other information the health care provider submits to the |
|
department under other law. |
|
(c) Information regarding a woman who is diagnosed with or |
|
treated for uterine fibroids that is maintained in the database |
|
under Subsection (a): |
|
(1) may not include any personally identifying |
|
information of the woman; and |
|
(2) is confidential and may be used only by the |
|
department or other person on behalf of the department for uterine |
|
fibroid research. |
|
Sec. 100A.002. UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION OUTREACH. The |
|
department, in consultation with the Texas Medical Association, |
|
shall develop and disseminate to health care providers information |
|
on uterine fibroids and conduct a campaign to increase public |
|
awareness of uterine fibroids, including information on and |
|
awareness of the: |
|
(1) women of a race or ethnicity that has a |
|
statistically elevated risk of developing uterine fibroids; and |
|
(2) range of available treatment options for uterine |
|
fibroids that include non-hysterectomy treatments and procedures. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
