A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to requiring training in cultural competence for certain |
|
|
employees of the Department of Family and Protective Services. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 40, Human Resources Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 40.0375 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 40.0375. TRAINING IN CULTURAL COMPETENCE. (a) In this |
|
|
section, "cultural competence" means the ability to understand, |
|
|
communicate with, and effectively interact with people from |
|
|
different cultures. |
|
|
(b) The department shall provide training in cultural |
|
|
competence to employees who work in the family-based safety |
|
|
services area. The training must educate employees on the ways in |
|
|
which a person's cultural differences affect the person's views on |
|
|
family and raising children. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
