A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a peace officer training advisory committee. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 1701.2511 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 1701.2511. OFFICER TRAINING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a) |
|
The officer training advisory committee is created. The committee |
|
is composed of: |
|
(1) one member of the legislature, appointed by the |
|
governor and designated by the governor as the chair of the |
|
committee; |
|
(2) three members of the senate, appointed by the |
|
lieutenant governor; and |
|
(3) three members of the house of representatives, |
|
appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives. |
|
(b) The committee shall conduct a study of the training |
|
programs the commission establishes and maintains under this |
|
chapter for officers who are required to hold a license as provided |
|
by Section 1701.301. The study must take into account the school |
|
curricula, examination requirements, and training programs |
|
required for a person who seeks to become licensed as an officer. |
|
(c) The committee shall meet at the call of the chair. |
|
(d) Not later than December 1, 2022, the committee shall |
|
report the committee's findings and recommendations to the members |
|
of the legislature. The committee's recommendations must include |
|
ways to improve the training programs provided by the commission to |
|
persons who seek a license as an officer under this chapter. |
|
(e) This section expires December 1, 2023. |

SECTION 2. Not later than November 1, 2021, the relevant |
|
appointing officers shall appoint the members of the peace officer |
|
training advisory committee under Section 1701.2511, Occupations |
|
Code, as added by this Act. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
