A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to health benefit plan coverage for colon cancer screening |
|
|
for certain individuals. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 1363.003(a), Insurance Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) A health benefit plan that provides coverage for |
|
|
screening medical procedures must provide [to each individual |
|
|
enrolled in the plan who is 50 years of age or older and at normal |
|
|
risk for developing colon cancer] coverage for expenses incurred in |
|
|
conducting a medically recognized screening examination for the |
|
|
detection of colorectal cancer to each individual enrolled in the |
|
|
plan who is 45 years of age or older. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to a health benefit plan that is delivered, issued for delivery, or |
|
|
renewed on or after January 1, 2022. A health benefit plan that is |
|
|
delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed before January 1, 2022, |
|
|
is governed by the law as it existed immediately before the |
|
|
effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for |
|
|
that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
