A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to health benefit plan coverage for colon cancer screening
  for certain individuals.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 1363.003(a), Insurance Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (a)  A health benefit plan that provides coverage for
  screening medical procedures must provide [to each individual
  enrolled in the plan who is 50 years of age or older and at normal
  risk for developing colon cancer] coverage for expenses incurred in
  conducting a medically recognized screening examination for the
  detection of colorectal cancer to each individual enrolled in the
  plan who is 45 years of age or older.
         SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
  to a health benefit plan that is delivered, issued for delivery, or
  renewed on or after January 1, 2022. A health benefit plan that is
  delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed before January 1, 2022,
  is governed by the law as it existed immediately before the
  effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for
  that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
