A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to testing discharged or released inmates for communicable |
|
|
diseases and any life-threatening diseases or conditions. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 501, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 501.0545 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 501.0545. INMATE TESTING FOR COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND |
|
|
LIFE-THREATENING DISEASES OR CONDITIONS. (a) In this section, |
|
|
"communicable disease" has the meaning assigned by Section 81.003, |
|
|
Health and Safety Code. |
|
|
(b) Before discharging an inmate or releasing an inmate on |
|
|
parole, mandatory supervision, or conditional pardon, the |
|
|
department shall test the inmate for communicable diseases and any |
|
|
life-threatening diseases or conditions. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
