A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to contacting certain relatives of a child in the managing
  conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective
  Services.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 263.007, Family Code, is amended to read
  as follows:
         Sec. 263.007.  REPORT AND AFFIDAVIT REGARDING NOTIFICATION
  OF RELATIVES.  (a) Not later than the 10th day before the date set
  for a hearing under Subchapter C, the department shall file with the
  court a report regarding:
               (1)  the efforts the department made to identify,
  locate, and provide information to the individuals described by
  Section 262.1095;
               (2)  the name of each individual the department
  identified, located, or provided with information; and
               (3)  if applicable, an explanation of why the
  department was unable to identify, locate, or provide information
  to an individual described by Section 262.1095.
         (b)  The report under Subsection (a) must be accompanied by
  an affidavit affirming the contents of the report.
         SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies to a
  suit affecting the parent-child relationship that is filed on or
  after the effective date of this Act. A suit affecting the
  parent-child relationship filed before the effective date of this
  Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the suit was filed,
  and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
