A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a requirement that a redistricting plan for the |
|
|
election of members of the United States House of Representatives |
|
|
be based on the total population of the state. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subtitle B, Title 3, Government Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Chapter 319A to read as follows: |
|
|
CHAPTER 319A. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING |
|
|
Sec. 319A.001. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING PLAN BASED ON |
|
|
TOTAL POPULATION. The legislature must enact a redistricting plan |
|
|
for the election of the members of the United States House of |
|
|
Representatives elected from this state based on the total |
|
|
population of the state as ascertained by the most recent United |
|
|
States decennial census. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
