A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to identifying and addressing social determinants of |
|
health in Medicaid managed care contracts. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 533.005, Government Code, is amended by |
|
adding subsection (a)(27-29)to read as follows: |
|
(27) a requirement that the managed care organization |
|
perform routine screening of recipients to identify social |
|
determinants of health including: |
|
(A) housing; |
|
(B) education; |
|
(C) economic opportunity; and |
|
(D) community conditions including access to |
|
healthy food, environmental conditions, and safety from crime; |
|
(28) a requirement that the managed care organization |
|
coordinate with local community services and other federal, state, |
|
and local government agencies as applicable to help address the |
|
social determinants of health identified in subsection (27) that |
|
are affecting the health of the recipient; and |
|
(29) a requirement that the managed care organization |
|
have a designated social determinants of health specialists for |
|
each service area they are contracted in. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act does not apply to contracts entered in |
|
to before the effective date but applies to all contracts that are |
|
new, renewed, or extended on or after the effective date. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
