A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the designation of public health regions and |
|
|
collaboration between a regional director and a regional council of |
|
|
governments. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 121.007, Health and Safety Code, is |
|
|
amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (d) to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The department shall [may] designate not less than 22 |
|
|
geographic areas of the state as public health regions to provide |
|
|
public health services. |
|
|
(d) The department shall require each regional director to |
|
|
collaborate with the regional council of governments of any county |
|
|
or municipality in the public health region served by the regional |
|
|
director. |
|
|
SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|
|
of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall |
|
|
designate public health regions as required by Section 121.007, |
|
|
Health and Safety Code, as amended by this Act, and appoint regional |
|
|
directors to those public health regions as required by that |
|
|
section. |

SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
