A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and |
|
the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regarding a plan to |
|
protect water treatment facilities from catastrophe. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. (a) The Public Utility Commission of Texas and |
|
the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality shall conduct a study |
|
to create a plan to protect water treatment facilities from: |
|
(1) electrical outages; |
|
(2) catastrophic weather events; |
|
(3) terrorist attacks; |
|
(4) the projected effects of climate change; and |
|
(5) other potential disruptions to providing water |
|
service. |
|
(b) In conducting the study, the Public Utility Commission |
|
of Texas and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality shall |
|
consult with other state agencies or interested persons as needed |
|
to conduct the study. |
|
(c) Not later than September 1, 2022, the Public Utility |
|
Commission of Texas and the Texas Commission on Environmental |
|
Quality shall submit a report on the results of the study to the |
|
governor and the legislature. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
