A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the creation of an additional judicial district |
|
|
composed of Brazos County and the duties of the district attorney |
|
|
for the 85th Judicial District in Brazos County. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 24, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 24.6007 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 24.6007. 463RD JUDICIAL DISTRICT (BRAZOS COUNTY). (a) |
|
|
The 463rd Judicial District is composed of Brazos County. |
|
|
(b) The 463rd District Court has concurrent jurisdiction |
|
|
with the statutory county courts of Brazos County in misdemeanor |
|
|
cases as well as the jurisdiction prescribed by general law for |
|
|
district courts. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 43.143(a), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The voters of the 85th Judicial District elect a |
|
|
district attorney who represents the state in the district courts |
|
|
having jurisdiction in that county. |
|
|
SECTION 3. The 463rd Judicial District is created on the |
|
|
effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
