A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to judges compensation to conduct marriage ceremonies in |
|
|
the State of Texas; creating a criminal offense. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section Sec. 2.202, Family Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |
|
|
(e) A current judicial officeholder commits an offense if |
|
|
the person knowingly agrees to accept, directly or indirectly, |
|
|
overtly or covertly any remuneration in cash or in kind to or from |
|
|
another for conducting a marriage ceremony. An offense under this |
|
|
subsection is a Class B Misdemeanor. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
