A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the required minutes of service during each school day |
|
|
for a classroom teacher in public schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 21.401, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |
|
|
(e) A contract between a school district and a classroom |
|
|
teacher may not require the teacher to work more than 510 minutes |
|
|
during each day of service. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 21.401(e), Education Code, as added by |
|
|
this Act, applies only to a contract executed on or after the |
|
|
effective date of this Act. A contract executed before the |
|
|
effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|
|
day the contract was executed, and the former law is continued in |
|
|
effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
