A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the approval of career and technology courses by the |
|
|
State Board of Education. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 28.002(o), Education Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(o) In approving career and technology courses, the State |
|
|
Board of Education must: |
|
|
(1) determine that at least 50 percent of the approved |
|
|
courses are cost-effective for a school district to implement; |
|
|
(2) approve courses that are offered online or through |
|
|
an Internet portal maintained by the district or agency; and |
|
|
(3) update the list of approved courses at least |
|
|
annually and as needed to provide current and relevant courses. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
