A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to the approval of career and technology courses by the
  State Board of Education.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 28.002(o), Education Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         (o)  In approving career and technology courses, the State
  Board of Education must:
               (1)  determine that at least 50 percent of the approved
  courses are cost-effective for a school district to implement; and
               (2)  in scheduling or initiating a course review to
  provide updated and relevant course offerings, consider relevant
  economic and market conditions affecting the workforce of this
  state.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022
  school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
