R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, David Warren Wallace retired as Sutton County
  attorney in 2020, drawing to a close a remarkable tenure with the
  county that spanned three and a half decades; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Sonora and a fourth-generation rancher
  in Sutton County, David Wallace earned a bachelor's degree in
  petroleum land management from The University of Texas at Austin in
  1978 and a law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1982;
  returning to his hometown, he served as city attorney and assistant
  district attorney before becoming Sutton County attorney on January
  1, 1985; and
         WHEREAS, Having been in office for 35 years, Mr. Wallace
  became one of the longest-serving county attorneys in the Lone Star
  State; he has also maintained a successful private practice in oil
  and gas law, and he is well-known as a litigator on behalf of
  mineral rights owners; in addition, he is a former council member of
  the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of
  Texas as well as a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Wallace has often made presentations to energy
  conferences as well as to conferences of the State Bar of Texas and
  the National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO), and he has
  published articles about oil and gas law and spoken about oil and
  mineral rights before many organizations and in academic settings;
  he has also served as a director of NARO and the Mohair Council of
  America and as a board member of The Bank & Trust and Westex
  Bancorp, Inc.; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Wallace has benefited from
  the love and support of his wife, Elizabeth, as well as that of
  their two sons, Wilson and Warren; a leader in his community, he is
  a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, the Sonora
  Lions Club, and St. John's Episcopal Church; and
         WHEREAS, David Wallace's dedication, expertise, and
  commitment to the law have greatly benefited the citizens of Sutton
  County and earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and
  he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he
  embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate David Warren Wallace on his
  retirement as Sutton County attorney and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Wallace as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
