R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of "Dean" Teh-An Cheng of Houston on September 16, 2020, at
  the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Hunan, China, on February 20, 1927, Dean
  Cheng was the son of Songnian Cheng and Lanqing Jiang, and he grew
  up with three siblings; after completing his education at National
  Central Technical School, he joined the military and worked as a
  technical assistant with the Shanghai National Defense Medical
  College; he climbed the ranks from warrant officer to captain
  before leaving the military in 1960; he was subsequently employed
  in several engineering positions throughout Taiwan and Vietnam, and
  in 1971, he moved to Guam to manage a hydropower engineering
  company; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cheng ultimately settled in Houston with his
  family, and he became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1981; he worked
  with Ret-Ser Engineering Agency in Saudi Arabia, and he went on to
  help build the Gulf University and air force base in Bahrain; from
  1991 to 1998, he served as chief engineer at Hung Ching Development &
  Construction Co., Ltd., and he was in charge of the A.S.E. Center
  Construction Project in Taiwan; he remained at the company as a
  consultant for its Shanghai branch from 2004 until his retirement
  in 2008; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Cheng shared a rewarding
  marriage with his wife, Sophie, until her passing in 2004; he took
  great pride in his three children, Alice, Andrew, and Danny, and his
  four grandchildren, Eric, Katherine, Zoe, and Parker; and
         WHEREAS, While the death of Dean Cheng brings immeasurable
  sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that
  will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of "Dean" Teh-An Cheng
  and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dean Cheng.
