R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
|
87th Texas Legislature are pleased to honor Kaufman County and to |
|
recognize all those who are participating in the Kaufman County |
|
legislative day on March 29, 2021; and |
|
WHEREAS, Situated in the fertile blackland prairie of |
|
Northeast Texas, the region was home to Cherokee and Caddo tribes |
|
when a group of settlers from Mississippi led by William P. King |
|
arrived in 1840 and established a community that became known as |
|
Kingsboro; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1848, Kaufman County was carved out of Henderson |
|
County and named in honor of David Spangler Kaufman, a member of the |
|
Congress of the Republic of Texas, the Texas Legislature, and the |
|
United States Congress; three years later, the settlement of |
|
Kingsboro became the county seat and took the new name of Kaufman; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Among the area's notable historic sites and |
|
landmarks are the Kaufman County Poor Farm, which was established |
|
in 1883 to provide housing to indigent residents, the Terrell |
|
Carnegie Library Building, and the William and Blanche Brooks House |
|
in Forney; other popular destinations include the Kaufman County |
|
Veterans Memorial Park and Vietnam Memorial Wall and the No. 1 |
|
British Flying Training School Museum in Terrell; and |
|
WHEREAS, The rapidly growing population supports many |
|
different industries within the Texas economy, and a high |
|
percentage of the workforce is engaged in health care and social |
|
assistance, educational services, retail trade, manufacturing, and |
|
the construction service sectors; and |
|
WHEREAS, Treasuring their rich heritage as they look forward |
|
to a bright and promising future, the citizens of Kaufman County may |
|
take great pride in the role their communities continue to play in |
|
the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Kaufman County and extend to its citizens |
|
sincere best wishes for the future. |
