R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A life dedicated to the service of his nation has |
|
drawn to a close with the death of retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant |
|
Colonel Gus E. Myers on January 25, 2021, at the age of 83; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Windsor, Illinois, on August 16, 1937, to |
|
Harry and Mary Myers, Gus Myers served in the U.S. Navy for four |
|
years before completing a degree in physics at Eastern Illinois |
|
University; he subsequently joined the U.S. Air Force and trained |
|
as a pilot at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Myers served a tour of duty in Vietnam, after |
|
which he continued his education at the University of Arizona, |
|
where he earned a master's degree in nuclear engineering; he went on |
|
to teach at the U.S. Air Force Academy before retiring from the air |
|
force in 1982; in civilian life, he worked as director of risk |
|
management services at the University of North Texas until his |
|
retirement in December 2005; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
|
nation, Gus Myers earned the lasting respect and admiration of all |
|
who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lieutenant Colonel |
|
Gus E. Myers and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife, Kathryn Myers; to his children, Christopher |
|
Myers and his wife, Randi, Heidi Collins, and Stacey Paul and her |
|
husband, Scott; to his seven grandchildren and three |
|
great-grandsons; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gus E. |
|
Myers. |
