R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Horacio Gomez of Hanks High School in El Paso has |
|
received a 2020 Meritorious Achievement Award from the Texas |
|
Bandmasters Association for his outstanding commitment to music |
|
education; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Riverside High School and The |
|
University of Texas at El Paso, Mr. Gomez has enjoyed a rewarding |
|
career as an educator that has spanned nearly three decades, |
|
including 26 years as the band director for Hanks High School; |
|
during his tenure at Hanks High, he has helped his students to reach |
|
their full potential, and under his leadership, the school's |
|
marching band has frequently advanced to state and its concert |
|
bands have excelled in various UIL competitions; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to teaching and inspiring his own |
|
students, Mr. Gomez has furthered music education in the region by |
|
founding the annual Hanks Jazz Festival; moreover, he is band chair |
|
of the Texas Music Educators Association for Region 22, and he gives |
|
of his time and talents to the Texas Bandmasters Association, the |
|
Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and Phi Beta Mu; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Horacio Gomez has |
|
exemplified the qualities that are the hallmarks of our best |
|
teachers, and he has earned the respect and admiration of his |
|
colleagues and students alike; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Horacio Gomez on his receipt of a |
|
2020 Meritorious Achievement Award from the Texas Bandmasters |
|
Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Gomez as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
