R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Nacogdoches lost an admired civic |
|
|
leader with the passing of Bill Truman Teague on December 25, 2020, |
|
|
at the age of 83; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Carl and Gladys Teague, Bill Teague was |
|
|
born in Freer on October 24, 1937, and grew up in Abilene; he earned |
|
|
his bachelor's degree in medical technology from Hardin-Simmons |
|
|
University, and after serving as a second lieutenant in the U.S. |
|
|
Army, he graduated from the blood bank specialty program at The |
|
|
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Teague worked at Ortho |
|
|
Clinical Diagnostics in New Jersey with the team that developed |
|
|
RhoGAM, the vaccine to protect the unborn babies of Rh-negative |
|
|
mothers; he went on to serve as CEO of blood banks in Florida and |
|
|
Austin, and in 1975, he was appointed as founding CEO of Gulf Coast |
|
|
Regional Blood Center in Houston; admired in his field, he served as |
|
|
president of the American Association of Blood Banks and treasurer |
|
|
of the American Blood Commission, and he was involved in policy and |
|
|
accreditation; he received numerous awards through the years, and |
|
|
in 2006, he was named president emeritus of Gulf Coast Regional |
|
|
Blood Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Teague was a member of the Harris County |
|
|
Sports & Convention Corporation board and a lifetime vice president |
|
|
of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; in addition, he was |
|
|
president of the Rotary Club of Houston, and after moving to |
|
|
Nacogdoches in retirement, he continued his noteworthy efforts as a |
|
|
Rotarian; he was also interim president and CEO of the Nacogdoches |
|
|
County Chamber of Commerce, and he was active in the Nacogdoches |
|
|
Booster Club, the SFASU Foundation board, and First United |
|
|
Methodist Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Teague shared a rewarding |
|
|
relationship of nearly 38 years with his wife, Lynn, and he took |
|
|
great pride in his sons, Tim and Jim, and his grandsons, Wade and |
|
|
James; an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and |
|
|
competing with his Labrador retrievers, including his beloved |
|
|
Cinder; he served as president of both the Master National |
|
|
Retriever Club and its MNRC Foundation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Although Bill Teague is deeply missed, his life |
|
|
stands as an inspiring example of the good that one person can |
|
|
accomplish; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bill Truman Teague |
|
|
and extend sincere condolences to his relatives and friends; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill Truman |
|
|
Teague. |
