R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close |
|
with the passing of Leonel Olivarez Sr. of Rio Grande City on |
|
November 1, 2020, at the age of 71; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leonel Olivarez graduated from The University of |
|
Texas-Pan American with a bachelor's degree in elementary education |
|
and a master's degree in bilingual education, and he went on to |
|
enjoy a fulfilling career as an educator that spanned five decades; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Olivarez |
|
proudly served with the U.S. Army; his commitment and positive |
|
attitude greatly benefited his unit, and he retired after a quarter |
|
century of service as a noncommissioned officer at the rank of |
|
sergeant; moreover, he was deeply dedicated to his community, and |
|
he held a seat on the Mission City Council for 16 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Olivarez shared nearly 49 |
|
years of marriage with his beloved wife, Amparo; he took great pride |
|
in his three children, Leo, Lorene, and Lisa, and his eight |
|
grandchildren, Leo, Alyssa, Jackie, Victoria, Angelo, Daniel, Mya, |
|
and Ozzie, and he was actively involved in their extracurricular |
|
activities; in all his endeavors, he drew strength from his strong |
|
and abiding faith; and |
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with a charming smile and a magnetic |
|
personality, Leonel Olivarez brightened the world for all who knew |
|
him, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Leonel Olivarez Sr. |
|
and extend sincere condolences to his relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leonel |
|
Olivarez Sr. |
