R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The DeSoto High School girls' basketball team proved
  itself one of the finest in the Lone Star State when it claimed the
  2021 University Interscholastic League 6A state championship on
  March 11 at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, With the title game victory, the Lady Eagles hoisted
  the trophy for the first time in school history and wrapped up a
  year in which they excelled from start to finish; the team dropped
  just two games in the regular season and emerged as the District
  11-6A champions; in the playoffs, the DeSoto players dominated
  their opponents in their journey to the state tournament, winning
  each of their first four games by more than 30 points and then
  knocking off Duncanville High 52-39 to claim the regional title;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles bested South Grand Prairie in the
  semifinals and then took the floor against unbeaten and top-ranked
  Cypress Creek High School to battle for the championship; DeSoto
  fell behind early but rallied to take the lead late in the second
  quarter; after intermission, the Lady Eagles took command of the
  contest, holding Cypress Creek to just 13 second-half points and
  steadily widening their lead to win by a final score of 53-37; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by head coach Andrea Robinson and assistant
  coach Kadi Creel, the Lady Eagles were led in the championship game
  by Most Valuable Player Sa'Myah Smith, who tallied 10 points and 14
  rebounds, and Kendall Brown, who netted 12 points; the Lady Eagles
  also benefited throughout the year from the hard work of the other
  members of the roster: DeShayla Harris, Mylasia Smith, Kayla
  Glover, Ja'Mia Harris, Miah Payton, Tionna Herron, Jiya Perry,
  Michayla Gatewood, Ayanna Thompson, Amina Muhammad, Kaliyah
  Parker, Ariyanna Hines, Nadia Johnson, and Nisaa Muhammad; and
         WHEREAS, Fulfilling the hopes of their classmates and their
  many community supporters, the DeSoto Lady Eagles have earned a
  place among the elite teams to become basketball state champions,
  and they may reflect with pride on their extraordinary
  accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the DeSoto High School girls'
  basketball team on winning the 2021 UIL 6A state championship and
  extend to all those associated with the team sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Lady Eagles as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
