R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Texas Psychological Association is celebrating
  its 75th anniversary in 2022; and
         WHEREAS, TPA traces its origins to 1947, when its founding
  officers met to establish an organization that would advance
  psychology as a science and as a means of promoting human welfare;
  the following year, a constitution was drafted and adopted by the
  original 60 members at the association's first annual meeting, and
  the group soon became a state affiliate of the American
  Psychological Association; and
         WHEREAS, Originally focused on the sharing of scientific
  information through scholarly research and presentations, TPA
  eventually began to place more emphasis on professional practice
  aspects of the discipline such as licensure, education of
  practitioners, and applications of psychological knowledge in
  direct human services; in 1969, the group's legislative committee
  successfully advocated for the passage of the Psychologist's
  Certification and Licensing Act, which established the Texas State
  Board of Examiners of Psychologists and is still considered one of
  the organization's most significant contributions; and
         WHEREAS, Today, TPA supports all branches of psychology, with
  divisions dedicated to applied psychology, school psychology,
  professional training, and other aspects of the discipline;
  moreover, its committees cover such areas as continuing education,
  public information, ethics, professional standards review, and
  legislation; the organization also sponsors educational meetings
  and workshops, an annual convention, and a journal, Texas
  Psychologist; and
         WHEREAS, For three-quarters of a century, the Texas
  Psychological Association has represented and enhanced the
  profession of psychology in Texas, while contributing to its
  citizens' health and well-being through education, science, and
  practice; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Texas
  Psychological Association and extend to all those affiliated with
  the organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
