R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
|
passing of Maria Isabel Araujo on April 6, 2021, at the age of 93; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Victoria Navarro and Hermilo Vazquez |
|
|
Gomar, "Chavela" Araujo was born on December 10, 1927, in Silao, |
|
|
Guanajuato, Mexico, and she grew up with the companionship of six |
|
|
siblings; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On October 15, 1947, she married Edmundo Araujo, and |
|
|
the couple became the proud parents of 12 children, Dagoberto, |
|
|
Maria Lourdes, Edmundo, Eduardo, Jose Luis, Maria Isabel, Virginia, |
|
|
Maria del Rocio, Elizabeth, Enrique, Luis Mariano, and Cecilia |
|
|
Lourdes; with the passing years, Mrs. Araujo had the pleasure of |
|
|
seeing her family grow to include 28 grandchildren, 35 |
|
|
great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, with whom |
|
|
she cherished spending many special occasions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Araujo was a skilled businesswoman who owned |
|
|
Discoteca de Bajio for many years; a devout Catholic, she took an |
|
|
active role in St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Houston and in the |
|
|
Guadalupanas, and she sponsored several novices and priests; in |
|
|
addition to her contributions to her community of faith, she served |
|
|
as vice president of Casa Guanajuato and participated in |
|
|
fundraisers for the Consulate of Mexico; she was recognized for her |
|
|
many accomplishments by former Mexican president Vicente Fox; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An avid traveler, Mrs. Araujo visited numerous |
|
|
countries over the course of her lifetime, including Spain, Greece, |
|
|
Israel, Egypt, and the Philippines, and she especially enjoyed her |
|
|
trips to Rome to see Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While the death of Chavela Araujo brings |
|
|
immeasurable sorrow to her family and friends, she leaves behind a |
|
|
legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held her dear; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Maria Isabel Araujo |
|
|
and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chavela |
|
|
Araujo. |
