R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
|
passing of E. J. Webb of Borger on March 26, 2021, at the age of 91; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Cooper on December 27, 1929, to Paul Hampton |
|
|
Webb and Lura Mae Webb, "Jeep" Webb grew up with the companionship |
|
|
of four siblings, Paul, Bess, Jo, and Billy; after graduating from |
|
|
Tulia High School in 1949, he went on to attend West Texas State |
|
|
Teachers College, where he graduated in 1955 and earned a master's |
|
|
degree in 1963; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Webb enjoyed a long career in coaching that |
|
|
began in 1955, when he took on the roles of head basketball coach |
|
|
and assistant football coach in Littlefield; he subsequently |
|
|
accepted a number of coaching positions at schools throughout the |
|
|
Panhandle, and from 1966 to 1997, he coached football, boys cross |
|
|
country, and boys track in Borger, and he helped establish girls |
|
|
basketball, track, and cross country programs, both in Borger and |
|
|
in Canyon; he also worked as an assistant principal and bus driver; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A leader in his profession, Mr. Webb founded |
|
|
multiple chapters of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and |
|
|
served on the Texas High School Coaches Association board of |
|
|
directors for three years; he was recognized by the Panhandle |
|
|
Sports Hall of Fame for his work with the Amateur Athletic Union, |
|
|
and he was inducted into the Texas Girls Coaches Association Hall of |
|
|
Fame in 2011; in addition, he received the Community Builder Award |
|
|
and the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award of Excellence from the Masonic Lodge |
|
|
of Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Webb enjoyed the love and |
|
|
support of his wife, Norma, with whom he shared 67 years; he took |
|
|
great pride in their three children, Terry, Tana, and Typ, as well |
|
|
as in their three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a |
|
|
man of deep faith, he was a deacon at the First Baptist Church in |
|
|
Borger; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, a devoted family man, and an |
|
|
admired coach, Jeep Webb made a meaningful difference in the lives |
|
|
of countless young Texans, and he leaves behind a record of service |
|
|
that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of E. J. Webb and extend |
|
|
sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his daughter, Tana |
|
|
Stephens, and her husband, Cliff; to his son, Typ Webb, and his |
|
|
wife, Dixie; to his brother, Billy Ray Webb; to his grandchildren, |
|
|
Tanner and his wife, Olivia, Christy and her husband, Casey, and |
|
|
Brandon and his wife, Christa; to his great-grandchildren, Avary, |
|
|
Connor, Cameron, Hadlee, Jaxon, Reid, and Penelope; and to his |
|
|
other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jeep Webb. |
