R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Pecos High School girls' powerlifting team
  earned great distinction with its performance at the 2021 Texas
  High School Women's Powerlifting Association state meet, held on
  March 15 in Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, Competing in the 4A Small School Division, Pecos
  tied for third in the team standings with a total of 11 points;
  leading the way for the Lady Eagles was Miray Rodriguez, who claimed
  the 165-pound weight class title; as part of her outstanding
  showing, she set a record in the squat by hoisting 455 pounds, and
  after finishing with the second-highest weight total at the meet,
  she was named the top overall lifter in the heavy platform category;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles were also paced by Chassidy Jurado,
  who claimed a bronze medal in the 97-pound weight class with a
  combined total of 575 pounds; her performance included 235-pound
  efforts in both squat and deadlift; the Pecos point total was
  boosted by Lyla Villarreal's fifth-place finish in the 114-pound
  class, while Abigail Gallegos was eighth in the 259+ group, and
  Janice Hernandez was 10th among the competitors at 259 pounds;
  these determined student-athletes were ably guided by head coach
  Jarrod Thomas; and
         WHEREAS, Through determination, hard work, and an unwavering
  commitment to excellence, the Pecos Lady Eagles have earned the
  admiration of their fellow students and their many community
  supporters, and they may reflect with pride on a job well done; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Pecos High School girls'
  powerlifting team on its performance at the 2021 Texas High School
  Women's Powerlifting Association state meet and extend to the
  team's athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
