R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Pecos County are gathering in
  Fort Stockton on May 3, 2021, to commemorate the 150th anniversary
  of their county's founding; and
         WHEREAS, Situated south of the Pecos River, this region of
  desert brushland, stately mesas, and arroyos was first inhabited in
  prehistoric times; centuries later, it was visited by the Comanches
  and by traders who passed along the Chihuahua Trail; Fort Stockton
  was established in 1859 at Comanche Springs to guard the mail route
  between San Antonio and El Paso, and the nearby civilian settlement
  of St. Gall, founded in 1868, became a supply center for the army,
  wagon trains, and other travelers; and
         WHEREAS, Pecos County was established by the Texas
  Legislature on May 3, 1871, and organized in 1875 with the county
  seat in St. Gall, which was renamed Fort Stockton in the 1880s; the
  famous Goodnight-Loving cattle trail passed through the county, and
  the arrival of the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway Company in
  1913 as well as the development of irrigation brought new settlers;
  the discovery of oil in the 1920s led to an oil boom and the creation
  of the towns of Redbarn, Iraan, and Bakersfield; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the county is a center of oil and natural gas
  production as well as solar farms and wind power, while its
  agricultural economy is supported by the ranching of cattle, sheep,
  and goats and the farming of alfalfa, onions, peppers, and melons;
  residents enjoy such cultural events as the Pecos County Livestock
  Show and country music and folk concerts as well as cook-offs and
  rodeos, while visitors are drawn by the county's colorful history
  and scenic drives; and
         WHEREAS, Working to preserve their rich history while they
  build a bright future, the people of Pecos County may indeed take
  great pride in their home as they celebrate this milestone
  anniversary; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the sesquicentennial of Pecos
  County and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for
  a meaningful and memorable event.
