R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Emily Richmond Gilby of Cedar Park is graduating |
|
|
with honors from Southwestern University on May 8, 2021; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A political science major with a minor in history, |
|
|
Ms. Gilby was named Outstanding Student of the Year for Political |
|
|
Science 2021, and she has appeared on the Dean's List annually; she |
|
|
is a Hatton W. Sumners Scholar and a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha |
|
|
Political Science National Honor Society, the Phi Beta Kappa |
|
|
Society, and the Pi Delta Phi French National Honor Society; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While excelling academically, Ms. Gilby has also |
|
|
gained valuable experience in her field; she worked as a |
|
|
legislative aide for State Representative John H. Bucy III and as a |
|
|
legal research intern for the Travis County Justice of the Peace for |
|
|
Precinct 1; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Gilby has given freely of her time and talents |
|
|
to a number of civic organizations; she has supported participation |
|
|
in the electoral process as a Texas Civic Ambassador for the Annette |
|
|
Strauss Institute for Civic Life at The University of Texas at |
|
|
Austin, as a democracy fellow for Campus Vote Project at |
|
|
Southwestern, and as a poll defender for MTV +1 the Polls; moreover, |
|
|
she is president of the Southwestern University College Democrats |
|
|
and deputy director of public affairs for Texas College Democrats; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Exciting challenges and opportunities await this |
|
|
outstanding young Texan, and it is a pleasure to join her family and |
|
|
friends in recognizing her as she embarks on a future bright with |
|
|
promise; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Emily Richmond Gilby on her |
|
|
graduation from Southwestern University and extend to her sincere |
|
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Gilby as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
