R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Lubbock High School girls' swimming & diving
  team once again proved itself one of the finest in Texas by winning
  the 2021 University Interscholastic League 5A state championship;
  and
         WHEREAS, After first donning the mantle of state champions in
  2020, the Lady Westerners returned in top form for the 2020-2021
  school year, and on February 5 they established themselves strong
  contenders for another title by securing the regional championship
  for the eighth consecutive time; and
         WHEREAS, On March 2, the Lady Westerners joined the other top
  Texas high school competitors at the Blossom Athletic Center in San
  Antonio for the UIL Swimming & Diving State Meet; in an impressive
  demonstration of talent and determination, Lubbock bested its
  closest foe by nearly 50 points to successfully defend its 5A crown;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Lady Westerners were especially impressive in
  the 200-yard medley relay, with the quartet of Ellis Fox, Emma
  Brady, Elizabeth Eppright, and Shaena McCloud setting a 5A state
  record of 1 minute, 45.19 seconds; Lubbock swimmers made a strong
  showing in the freestyle relays as well, with silver medals being
  claimed by both the 200-yard team of Ms. Brady, Scarlett and Shaena
  McCloud, and Laura Byars and the 400-yard squad of Ms. Brady,
  Ms. Byars, Ms. Eppright, and Ms. Fox; and
         WHEREAS, Individually, Lubbock was paced by Ms. Fox, who
  captured a gold medal in the 100-yard butterfly and finished third
  in the 200-yard individual medley; Shaena McCloud collected
  respective silver and bronze medals in the 100-yard and 50-yard
  freestyle races; additionally, Ms. Brady came in third in the
  100-yard breaststroke, and Alyssa Britt contributed a fourth-place
  showing in 1-meter diving; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
  commitment to excellence, and the Lubbock High Lady Westerners will
  treasure the memory of this accomplishment for the rest of their
  lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Lubbock High School girls'
  swimming & diving team on winning the 2021 5A state championship and
  extend to the team's athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
