R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Lamar High School received a 2021 Landmark Award
  from the Houston Business Journal, providing a fitting opportunity
  to celebrate the completion of the school's innovative new building
  and extensive renovations to its original campus; and
         WHEREAS, The Landmark Awards recognize outstanding real
  estate projects that make a significant impact on the Houston
  landscape and help sculpt the look, feel, and image of the city;
  Lamar High School was honored in the education category, and it was
  judged on its innovative interiors, use of land, and visual plan, as
  well as for being environmentally friendly; and
         WHEREAS, Funded by the Houston Independent School District's
  2012 bond program, the $122 million Lamar High redesign features a
  new four-story building that houses a gym, natatorium, band hall,
  black box theater, and banquet hall; the addition of a five-story
  parking garage created space for a full-size track, two tennis
  courts, and football, baseball, and softball fields; moreover, the
  main building of the original campus was renovated to preserve its
  architecturally significant art deco design, and the updated
  facility includes a childcare wing, welcome center, and ROTC and
  Career and Technical Education classrooms; and
         WHEREAS, Lamar High is an International Baccalaureate school
  that provides diverse groups of students with a rigorous
  educational program and a broad range of extracurricular
  activities; the school's new building is organized into "academic
  neighborhoods" that will allow for the instructional model to shift
  to a more interdisciplinary and project-based approach, helping to
  foster a learning environment that can be tailored to meet
  individual needs; and
         WHEREAS, Lamar High School is dedicated to preparing area
  youth for the challenges and opportunities that await them in a
  rapidly changing world, and the new campus enhancements reflect the
  community's enduring commitment to the school and its vital
  mission; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Lamar High School on its receipt of
  a 2021 Landmark Award from the Houston Business Journal and extend
  to all those associated with the campus sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
