R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Wheeler County lost an esteemed
  civic leader with the death of Judge Jerry Dan Hefley on May 6,
  2021, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Dan and Willie Hefley, Jerry Hefley was
  born in Wheeler on November 6, 1943, and he grew up with the
  companionship of six siblings; and
         WHEREAS, In 1985, Mr. Hefley began working as the Wheeler
  County tax assessor-collector, and 14 years later, he became the
  county judge; highly dedicated to his community, he was an avid
  supporter of the county fire departments and emergency medical
  services; in addition, he was involved in Wheeler County 4-H, and he
  was instrumental in establishing the 4-H Shooting Sports Complex in
  Shamrock; a man of deep faith, he was a valued congregant of the
  Church of Christ-Wheeler Area; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Hefley benefited from
  the love and support of his wife, Carolyn, with whom he shared a
  rewarding marriage that spanned more than four and a half decades;
  he took great pride in their sons, Justin and Kendall, and with the
  passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family
  three grandchildren, Olivia, Jaylee, and Avery; in his leisure
  time, he liked fishing and cheering on local sports teams, and he
  also enjoyed cattle ranching; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Jerry Hefley was a devoted family man and a
  significant asset to his community, and his commitment to his loved
  ones and to Wheeler County will be remembered and admired for years
  to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Jerry
  Dan Hefley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Carolyn Hefley; to his sons, Justin Hefley and his
  wife, Mireille, and Kendall Hefley and his wife, Christian; to his
  sister, Mary Helen Kelley; to his grandchildren, Olivia, Jaylee,
  and Avery Hefley; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
  Hefley.
