R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, San Antonio district engineer Mario Jorge retired
  from the Texas Department of Transportation at the end of December
  2020, drawing to a close more than 36 years of outstanding service
  to the agency; and
         WHEREAS, After emigrating from Cuba, Mario Jorge went on to
  earn his bachelor's degree in engineering from The University of
  Texas; he first worked for TxDOT as a summer employee in the Pharr
  District in 1983, and in June 1984, he joined the agency full-time,
  serving as a construction inspector and roadway designer in the
  Collin County office of the Dallas District; returning to the Pharr
  District soon thereafter, he worked in roadway and bridge design
  and construction management and was appointed area engineer in
  1993; and
         WHEREAS, In January 2002, Mr. Jorge was promoted to district
  engineer, and during his 11-year tenure in that role, he oversaw the
  expansion of more than 100 miles of interstate highway, as well as
  several important international projects; since 2013, he has served
  as district engineer in San Antonio, where he has played a leading
  role in such major projects as the expansion of U.S. 281,
  Interstate 10 west and east, and Loop 1604, as well as the I-35
  Northeast Expansion Central Project; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Jorge enjoys the love and
  support of his wife, Elsa, as well as that of his three sons; and
         WHEREAS, Mario Jorge's dedication, expertise, and commitment
  to excellence have greatly benefited the people of Texas and earned
  him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, and he may indeed
  take well-deserved pride in his exceptional record of achievement;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Mario Jorge on his retirement from
  the Texas Department of Transportation and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jorge as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
