R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Henry Mendez has distinguished himself through his
  46 years of dedicated service to the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire
  Department; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Mendez first joined the Lake Jackson VFD in
  December 1974, and he has held a number of ranks with the department
  in the decades since, including captain, assistant chief, and fire
  chief; throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated exceptional
  ability as well as a tireless commitment to answering the call of
  duty at any time of day or night; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has further contributed to the
  Lake Jackson community as a member of the city council and the
  city's Animal Control Board, Parks and Recreation Board, and
  Charter Review Commission; moreover, he has given of his time and
  talents to the Bond Task Force and Festival of Lights committee; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mendez has enjoyed the
  love and support of his wife of 40 years, Veronica, and he takes
  great pride in his 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 4
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, The welfare of communities across Texas is greatly
  enhanced by the efforts of volunteer firefighters, and Henry Mendez
  may take justifiable pride in his commitment to serve and protect
  his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Henry Mendez for his 46 years of service
  with the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Mendez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
