R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Officer |
|
|
Patrick Eugene Sloan of the Sunray Police Department, who passed |
|
|
away on October 31, 2020, at the age of 51; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Patrick Sloan was born on October 24, 1969; he |
|
|
joined the Texas Army National Guard at the age of 17 as an M60A3 |
|
|
tank crew member; he completed U.S. Army Airborne School and was |
|
|
assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg; Officer Sloan |
|
|
proudly served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1993, after leaving the army, he began his career |
|
|
as a Texas master peace officer, instructor, and SWAT tactical |
|
|
medic; following the attacks of September 11, he returned to active |
|
|
duty, serving as a combat medic with Bravo Company 3rd of the 112th |
|
|
Armor Division, 56th Brigade Combat Team, during Operation Iraqi |
|
|
Freedom; he received many military honors, including the Bronze |
|
|
Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement |
|
|
Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia |
|
|
Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Iraq Campaign Medal, |
|
|
the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Service |
|
|
Ribbon, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Resuming his career in law enforcement, Officer |
|
|
Sloan played an instrumental role in building the Sunray Police |
|
|
Department, and he cultivated lasting relationships with the public |
|
|
during his patrol shifts; along the way, he continued his |
|
|
education, earning a master's degree in security management from |
|
|
the University of Denver; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Officer Sloan enjoyed the love |
|
|
and support of his wife, Lynette, with whom he shared more than |
|
|
three decades, and he took great pride in his children, Michael, |
|
|
Aaron, Benjamin, and Kara, and his granddaughter, Quinn; a man of |
|
|
strong faith, he was actively involved in church over the course of |
|
|
his life; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Patrick Sloan made a meaningful difference in the |
|
|
lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he leaves |
|
|
behind a record of selfless service and civic engagement that his |
|
|
loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Officer Patrick |
|
|
Eugene Sloan and extend deepest condolences to the members of his |
|
|
family: to his wife, Lynette Sloan; to his children, Michael and his |
|
|
wife, Sarah, Aaron and his wife, Abby, Benjamin, and Kara; to his |
|
|
granddaughter, Quinn; to his chosen sons, Bryan and Jeff, and his |
|
|
chosen daughter, Amber; to his chosen grandchildren, Joy, Joshua, |
|
|
and JoAnna; to his mother, Diann; to his brother, Chris; to his |
|
|
chosen sister, Nanette, and his chosen brothers, Dutch and Ross; |
|
|
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Patrick |
|
|
Sloan. |
