R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Lexi Harrel and Shayna Meek of Tivy High School in |
|
|
Kerrville achieved great distinction by winning bronze medals at |
|
|
the 2021 University Interscholastic League Tennis State |
|
|
Tournament; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Taking the court in San Antonio on May 20 along with |
|
|
the other top 5A doubles teams in Texas, these talented |
|
|
student-athletes opened the tournament by defeating Abilene Wylie |
|
|
7-6, 6-4; Ms. Harrel and Ms. Meek then matched up against the team |
|
|
from Highland Park High School in the semifinals, where they gave |
|
|
their all but ultimately fell short, finishing as bronze medal |
|
|
recipients; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the able guidance of coaches Dave Johnson and |
|
|
Kirk Kniffen, the duo's fine showing at the state tournament capped |
|
|
off a memorable season that included an exceptional performance at |
|
|
the Region IV tournament, where they lost just one set en route to |
|
|
capturing the championship as fourth-seeded underdogs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By medaling at the state's premier showcase for high |
|
|
school tennis athletes, Lexi Harrel and Shayna Meek have ably |
|
|
represented their school, and they will cherish their memories of |
|
|
this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Lexi Harrel and Shayna Meek on |
|
|
earning bronze medals in the 5A girls' doubles event at the 2021 UIL |
|
|
Tennis State Tournament and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Harrel and Ms. Meek as an expression of high |
|
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
