R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Groesbeck are celebrating the
  150th anniversary of their community at their annual Heritage
  Festival from May 27 to 30, 2021; and
         WHEREAS, Situated in the Blackland Prairie region of Central
  Texas, Groesbeck began as a stop on the Houston and Texas Central
  Railway in 1869; it was incorporated by the state legislature on
  April 11, 1871, and the following day, a post office was
  established; two years later, the city became the county seat of
  Limestone County; the city's school district was founded in 1890,
  graduating its first high school class in 1896 and fielding its
  first football team in 1901; and
         WHEREAS, In an area rich with history, Groesbeck is near Old
  Fort Parker, the site of the kidnapping of Cynthia Ann Parker, the
  mother of Quanah Parker, the last chief of the Comanches, and it is
  also near the Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site,
  where veterans of the Civil War gathered regularly from 1889 to
  1946; the city is also home to one of the oldest municipal swimming
  pools in the state, dating to 1924, and the historic "million
  dollar" Limestone County Courthouse, also built in 1924; and
         WHEREAS, The 150th anniversary Heritage Festival features a
  carnival, storytellers, live music, rodeo events, and a Memorial
  Day ceremony followed by a parade led by the Horse Cavalry
  Detachment of the First Cavalry Division from Fort Hood; and
         WHEREAS, Celebrating their heritage as they work to build an
  even brighter future, the residents of Groesbeck are justifiably
  proud of their community, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor their
  contributions to the story of the Lone Star State on this milestone
  occasion; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of the
  founding of Groesbeck and extend to its citizens sincere best
  wishes for a meaningful and memorable celebration; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the city of Groesbeck as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
