R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
memories of Flavio Villarreal Sr. of El Sauz, who passed away on |
|
March 8, 2021, at the age of 88; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Hipolito and Isidra Villarreal, Flavio |
|
Villarreal was born on February 15, 1933; after graduating from |
|
Roma High School in 1952, he answered his nation's call to duty by |
|
joining the U.S. Army; he was stationed in Germany for 18 months |
|
during the Korean War, and he later continued his service in the |
|
Army Reserve; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Villarreal was joined in marriage with the |
|
former Ernestina Alaniz in 1958, and they shared a loving union that |
|
spanned 62 years until her death in 2020; they became the parents of |
|
three children, Flavio, David, and Irene, and later in life, their |
|
family grew to include five grandchildren and eight |
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Villarreal and his family resided in Rio Grande |
|
City during his long career with the U.S. Customs Service, and after |
|
his retirement in 1988, he settled on his ranch in El Sauz; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Villarreal served on |
|
the board of the Valley Telephone Cooperative for 16 years, and he |
|
was also a member of the boards of Starr County Soil and Water |
|
Conservation District No. 332, the Medina Electric Cooperative, |
|
and the Starr County Appraisal District; he was active in the VFW |
|
and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 9982 and a faithful |
|
parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; in his free |
|
time, he delighted in singing and playing instruments with his |
|
relatives and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, an engaged citizen, and a |
|
proud veteran, Flavio Villarreal lived a rich and purposeful life, |
|
and he leaves behind a legacy of service that will continue to |
|
inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Flavio Villarreal |
|
Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Flavio |
|
Villarreal. |
