R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
  memories of Flavio Villarreal Sr. of El Sauz, who passed away on
  March 8, 2021, at the age of 88; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Hipolito and Isidra Villarreal, Flavio
  Villarreal was born on February 15, 1933; after graduating from
  Roma High School in 1952, he answered his nation's call to duty by
  joining the U.S. Army; he was stationed in Germany for 18 months
  during the Korean War, and he later continued his service in the
  Army Reserve; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Villarreal was joined in marriage with the
  former Ernestina Alaniz in 1958, and they shared a loving union that
  spanned 62 years until her death in 2020; they became the parents of
  three children, Flavio, David, and Irene, and later in life, their
  family grew to include five grandchildren and eight
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Villarreal and his family resided in Rio Grande
  City during his long career with the U.S. Customs Service, and after
  his retirement in 1988, he settled on his ranch in El Sauz; and
         WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Villarreal served on
  the board of the Valley Telephone Cooperative for 16 years, and he
  was also a member of the boards of Starr County Soil and Water
  Conservation District No. 332, the Medina Electric Cooperative,
  and the Starr County Appraisal District; he was active in the VFW
  and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 9982 and a faithful
  parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; in his free
  time, he delighted in singing and playing instruments with his
  relatives and friends; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted family man, an engaged citizen, and a
  proud veteran, Flavio Villarreal lived a rich and purposeful life,
  and he leaves behind a legacy of service that will continue to
  inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Flavio Villarreal
  Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Flavio
  Villarreal.
