R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of the Roma community lost a beloved |
|
friend and neighbor with the passing of Onofre Baldemar Rodriguez |
|
on January 20, 2021, at the age of 72; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Roma, Onofre Rodriguez was born on April |
|
22, 1948, to Jose and Aurora Garza Rodriguez; he was raised in a |
|
large family with 11 siblings, Alicia, Elva, Juan, Fernando, |
|
Lupita, Maria, Jose, Claudia, Roel, Norma, and Hector, and he grew |
|
to love the outdoors from an early age; known for his skill with |
|
horses, he earned a reputation as a true Starr County vaquero; and |
|
WHEREAS, In his younger years, Mr. Rodriguez served the |
|
community in various law enforcement capacities, including as |
|
Roma's police chief from 1973 to 1975; he was later employed with |
|
the USDA as a tick inspector from 1978 to 1998, which provided him |
|
the opportunity to work for the benefit of the ranching community; |
|
he was always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone in |
|
need, and he was held in high regard around town for his honesty, |
|
integrity, and wisdom; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez was blessed with the love and support |
|
of his wife of 47 years, Susanna Salazar Rodriguez; the couple |
|
raised four daughters, Veronica, Annette, Monica, and Georginna, |
|
and he also knew the joy of becoming a grandfather to numerous |
|
grandchildren; he endeared himself to many friends, and he |
|
especially treasured the companionship of his lifelong best friend, |
|
Heriberto Garcia; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Onofre Rodriguez will be deeply missed by |
|
all who were privileged to know him, they will forever treasure |
|
their memories of his kind, generous nature and his great devotion |
|
to his family and community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Onofre Baldemar |
|
Rodriguez and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Onofre |
|
Baldemar Rodriguez. |
