R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Leonel M. Saenz of Realitos on July 9, 2020, at the age of |
|
85; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leonel Saenz was the son of Abdon and Romelia M. |
|
Saenz, and he grew up with the companionship of eight siblings, |
|
Jesus, Gilberto, Perfecto, Roel, Audon, Hector, Raymundo, and |
|
Trinidad; after graduating from Benavides High School in 1955, he |
|
answered his nation's call to duty and joined the United States |
|
Army; following his active service, he remained a member of the |
|
National Guard for several years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Saenz enjoyed a rewarding career with the Texas |
|
Department of Transportation that spanned nearly three decades |
|
until his retirement in 1993; during that time, he played softball |
|
in a league in Hebbronville, and he earned the lifelong nickname of |
|
"El Gallo"; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1959, Mr. Saenz married his high school |
|
sweetheart, Minnie, and the couple shared a fulfilling union of 60 |
|
years; he took great pride in their three children, Leonel, |
|
Melissa, and Alberto, and with the passing years, he had the |
|
pleasure of seeing his family grow to include nine grandchildren |
|
and five great-grandchildren; in retirement, he spent most of his |
|
time on his ranch, where he enjoyed tending to his cattle, working |
|
on projects, and hosting gatherings; he was an avid Dallas Cowboys |
|
fan, and he also loved hunting and watching boxing; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Leonel Saenz is greatly missed, memories of |
|
his kindness and sunny disposition remain to comfort and inspire |
|
those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Leonel M. Saenz and |
|
extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leonel |
|
Saenz. |
