H.R. No. 2082

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Ernesto Francisco Cavazos retired as chairman of the Willacy County Democratic Party, drawing to a close an exemplary tenure that spanned 32 years; and

WHEREAS, An esteemed resident of the Rio Grande Valley, Ernesto Cavazos graduated from Raymondville High School and The University of Texas-Pan American; he was employed as a farm worker, and he enjoyed a 22-year career at Texas Workforce Solutions; he served his country with distinction as a member of the Army National Guard during Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Noble Eagle, and Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cavazos was elected chairman of the Willacy County Democratic Party in 1989; the first chairman in Willacy County to assist election precinct chairs, he was instrumental in electing Democrats to county offices, and he was honored to attend the inaugurations of Governor Ann Richards and President Bill Clinton; and

WHEREAS, An engaged member of his community, Mr. Cavazos currently serves as chairman of the Willacy County Lions Club and as commissioner of the Willacy County Navigation District; and

WHEREAS, Over the last three decades, Ernesto Cavazos has helped set lasting standards for excellence within the Willacy County Democratic Party, and his leadership will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ernesto Francisco Cavazos on his retirement as chairman of the Willacy County Democratic Party and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Cavazos as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
