A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to third-party debt collection of traffic fines in certain |
|
|
counties. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Subtitle B, Title 14, Local |
|
|
Government Code, is amended by adding section 615.025 to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
Section 615.025. PROHIBITION ON THIRD-PARTY DEBT COLLECTION. |
|
|
(a) This section applies only to a county with a population of 1.7 |
|
|
million, but not more than 1.8 million. |
|
|
(b) A county described by subsection (a) may not use a |
|
|
third-party debt collector as defined by Chapter 392, Finance Code, |
|
|
for the collection of a traffic fine assessed by a justice court. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
