A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to continuing education programs for fire detection and |
|
|
alarm device installation. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 6002.052(b), Insurance Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) Under rules adopted under Section 6002.051, the |
|
|
department may create specialized licenses or registration |
|
|
certificates for an organization or individual engaged in the |
|
|
business of planning, certifying, leasing, selling, servicing, |
|
|
installing, monitoring, or maintaining fire alarm or fire detection |
|
|
devices or systems. The rules must establish appropriate training |
|
|
and qualification standards and continuing education requirements |
|
|
for each kind of license and certificate. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 6002.159(b), Insurance Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) If the commissioner certifies continuing education |
|
|
programs under this section, the commissioner by rule shall require |
|
|
license holders to participate [Participation] in the [continuing |
|
|
education] programs [is voluntary]. |
|
|
SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to a license issued or renewed on or after the effective date of |
|
|
this Act. A license issued or renewed before the effective date of |
|
|
this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before the |
|
|
effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for |
|
|
that purpose. |

|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
