A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the composition of the Public Utility Commission of |
|
|
Texas. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 12.051(a), Utilities Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The commission is composed of five [three] |
|
|
commissioners appointed by the governor with the advice and consent |
|
|
of the senate, with: |
|
|
(1) three commissioners of the political party whose |
|
|
candidate for governor received the most votes in the most recent |
|
|
gubernatorial election; and |
|
|
(2) two commissioners of the political party whose |
|
|
candidate for governor received the second most votes in the most |
|
|
recent gubernatorial election. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The governor shall promptly appoint two |
|
|
commissioners to the Public Utility Commission of Texas in |
|
|
accordance with Section 12.051, Utilities Code, as amended by this |
|
|
Act. The governor shall designate one commissioner to a term that |
|
|
expires September 1, 2025, and one commissioner to a term that |
|
|
expires September 1, 2027. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
