CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of James J. Hartnett Sr. on May 29, 2020, at the age of 90;
  and
         WHEREAS, The son of Tom and Florence Hartnett, Jim Hartnett
  was born in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1929, and he grew up in Jackson,
  Nebraska, with the companionship of 10 siblings; he joined the U.S.
  Air Force during the Korean War, and he served in South Korea as
  part of the 5th Communications Squadron Command; in 1957, he
  graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's
  degree in business, and he earned his juris doctor degree from UT
  two years later; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family, Mr. Hartnett shared a
  rewarding marriage of 64 years with his wife, Emily, and he took
  great pride in his seven children, Will, Jim, Ellen, Jay, Fred,
  Melinda, and the late Robert Hartnett; with the passing years, he
  had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include 21
  grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hartnett enjoyed a distinguished career as a
  trial and probate attorney in Dallas; he was an associate and later
  a partner with Turner, Hitchins, McInerney, Webb & Hartnett and in
  1982, he opened The Hartnett Law Firm with two of his sons;
  specializing in probate litigation, the boutique firm eventually
  grew to employ nine members of his family; Mr. Hartnett was a member
  of the Dallas Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas and a
  Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the
  Texas Bar Foundation; among his many accolades, he was recognized
  as a "Super Lawyer" by Thomson Reuters in 2004, and he received a
  lifetime achievement award from the Dallas Bar Association Probate
  Section in 2009; and
         WHEREAS, When he was not practicing law, Mr. Hartnett could
  often be found at Hartnett Farms, a farming operation he
  established in 1970; a man of deep faith, he participated in
  numerous religious organizations, including the St. Bernard Parish
  CCD, the Cistercian Preparatory School, and The Catholic
  Foundation; in addition, he was a Knight of the Order of Malta; and
         WHEREAS, Jim Hartnett possessed a generosity of spirit that
  expressed itself in myriad ways, and those he leaves behind will
  forever cherish their memories of this kind and caring man; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of James J. Hartnett Sr. and extend
  sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Jim Hartnett.
