A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment to prohibit the legislature |
|
from requiring a license or permit for the wearing of arms. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 23, Article I, Texas Constitution, is |
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 23. (a) Every citizen shall have the right to keep and |
|
bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State. |
|
(b) The [; but the] Legislature shall have power, by law, to |
|
regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime, but may |
|
not require a citizen of this state to obtain a license or permit to |
|
wear arms. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 2021. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment prohibiting the |
|
legislature from requiring a license or permit for the wearing of |
|
arms." |
